This Moment

Ahhh, the beautiful, sunny, and hot days of summer.  Although work life has been nothing but crazy, I have made an extra effort to take some time out for myself to do nothing.  I love poolside relaxing and reading, especially when I have months of magazines waiting to be read.  Poolside tanning and reading really need an ice cold companion, so i turn to Kind Kreme which is definitely the greatest invention since…ever! It is a vegan dessert alternative to ice cream, but way better and so healthy.  The super food actually has more nutrients than a salad and it tastes like chocolate butter cream – yes and yes.  The cherry on top? a surprise card left by my BF.

Something New

Say hello to the newest member of my shoe collection.  I bought these beauties during Theory’s summer sale last weekend.  Although I loved them right away, I  practiced “self-intervention” which is when I try to convince myself not to buy any more shoes, and I succeeded.  But I didn’t sleep all weekend long because I was thinking about these lovelies, so I decided not to deprive myself of a necessity – every woman needs a pair of pointy toe, platform wedges…right?

Derives: Lazy Days of Summer

Ah, the lazy days of summer.  The BF and I decided to enjoy an incredibly lazy Saturday afternoon at Larchmont Village.  We were desperately craving the delicious sandwiches at Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits, & Cheese.  If you haven’t stopped by this tiny deli, you are missing out on their super scrumptious sandwiches – they have a limited menu of 5 sandwiches, but you will leave satisfied.  We also stopped by the fairly new Goorin Brothers Hats shop to get the BF a new fedora – love the decor and the selection of hats.  Of course, I did some shopping and bought myself some new dresses for our summer trip to the mid-west to visit BF’s family.

Style Fix

It goes without saying that skirts are an important staple in every girl’s summer wardrobe, especially here in Los Angeles. My favorite skirt of the season is the midi. The vibrant colors of the season add a modern and refreshing update to this vintage look.  Plus, the midi is  so versatile – hello work, dinner, drinks, picnic, and beach!

I love chain detailing because it adds a certain edginess to even the most classic dress, handbag, or accessory – just think of the classic Chanel bag! You can’t get a more perfect combination of chic and edgy than Chanel.  Although I embrace chain detailing, I don’t want to be stopped by airport security or be the envy of some heavy metal rocker. I think you get my drift – limit your outfit to 1 chain adorned piece.

I absolutely enjoyed this past weekend, did you? 4th of July always means bbqs, family & friends and this past holiday weekend was no exception.  In addition to the family bbq at BFs, my mom hosted a party for the whole family.  I was able to enjoy my all-time summer favorites – watermelon and corn on the cob – plus showed off my new vintage sunnies to the fam.

Delish: Berry Shortcakes

On Saturday, Alan hosted my family for a delicious bbq and, of course, I was in charge of dessert.  I wanted to keep it simple since it was about a 1,000 degrees outside and I was BF’s sous chef, helping with the grill.  I usually make this dessert with strawberries as individual strawberry shortcakes, but I mixed it up with a batch of berries. The family loved this simple, perfectly sweet and tart dessert.

6 Biscuits – use any recipe you love (even the old school Bisquik recipe)
After the biscuits cool, cut each one in half.

Whipped Cream:
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbs confectioners’ sugar

In a large bowl, whip cream until stiff peaks are just about to form. Beat in vanilla and sugar until peaks form.  Make sure not to over-beat!

3 cups berries

Fill each biscuit with whipped cream and berries, voila!
