My late Uncle was the fashion icon of our family (he even outdid my Mom!) and would always love it when I went all out with bright colors. As I was getting dressed, I immediately thought of him and what he would say. I then remembered a gift he had given me for my birthday when I was a little girl, a gold ring with a small pink garnet after my birth month.  I remembered putting the ring on my finger and admiring it all weekend long and showing it off to my little sister. It finally came off the following Monday when I had to go to school – that was the last time I put on the ring.  This morning, I just had to wear it.  I struggled to get it on my ring finger (naturally, since it was sized for an 8 year old), but I finally did with lots of effort and lotion.  It turned a somber moment alone in my closet into an uplifting day for me.  It’s interesting how an outfit can take you back years and bring back so many memories, I’m glad that today’s memories were filled with someone I love.

Please keep those that have been affected by Sandy in your thoughts and prayers.

Drug Store Beauty Finds Under $10

I love shopping for beauty products at the drugstore since I can try out a variety of products for usually less than $10.  Plus, CVS gives me back “CVS bucks” on every purchase so I get to try new products for free. Over the years, I’ve found some great products that are just as great, if not better, than their expensive department/specialty store counterparts.  Some items I can’t live without (Aquaphor, Revlon Lipstick, Neutrogena Body Oil), while others I love to mix into my normal routine.

Don’t forget to enter my Gorjana + Griffin giveaway here by Thursday!  Happy Tuesday XO

Giveaway: Gorjana + Griffin

I’m thrilled to be hosting a giveaway for this adorable and delicate hammered heart necklace by Gorjana + Griffin. I have been a long-time fan of Gorjana + Griffin for their feminine jewelry designs. I’m especially a fan of their stackable rings.  I purchased this heart necklace a couple of months ago and have been wearing it non-stop.  It’s the perfect piece to wear alone or layered with other necklaces – a look that I absolutely love.

The winner will be announced on Friday, November 2nd on the blog.  To enter, follow me on Twitter, GFC, or Facebook and leave me a comment with your email address.
Good luck my friends!

The fine print: Contest closes on Thursday, November 1st at 9:00PM and is open only to US residents.

Congratulations to Yours Truly (jackiewangus@yahoo.com)! Please contact me with your info so I can send the pretty package your way.  Thanks to everyone who participated!

In planning our big day, BF and I would like to combine our favorite elements, which brings us to equal parts modern and art deco.  I have been collecting some wedding inspiration on my Pinterest account until we begin making some final decisions.  I hope you are all having a fabulous and inspirational day.

Down & Out in Leather

Blazer: BCBG | Top: LA Made | Skirt: Vintage | Heels: CL | Clutch: Marc Jacobs | Lips: Revlon Orange Flip

The gloomy (yet still warm) weather in LA this past weekend finally gave me the opportunity to wear my leather skirt I picked up from my recent vintage shopping trip. As much as I love tough-chic looks, I can’t seem to pull it off.  I tend to stick with ladylike looks, but add a bit of edginess with pieces like this leather skirt and washed tees.  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. XO!

There are few people with whom I can manage to spend the whole day and still not tire of their company.  Jenny, who proudly calls herself my “sole mate”, is one of them.  After we first met, Jenny and I immediately bonded.  She called me the following week and asked if I liked cheese (um, yes) and sample sales (double yes!) – we spent that Saturday cheese and wine tasting at a local cafe and then splurged on fabulous summer dresses at the W Hotel.  Six years later, this has turned into a standard Saturday for us where we start the day lunching, shopping, and exploring, and then closing out the evening with dinner and a glass of wine. On our vintage shopping day, Beth snapped up these fabulous pictures of us (now we can memorialize all of the fun we have together!)

Crave or Save? Hermes Cuff

Hermes Cuff: $1,500 | Stella & Dot: $89

I have been coveting the Hermes collier de chien for some time now – the details on this bangle are just out of this world. When vintage shopping with Beth, I saw the bello bangle in the Stella & Dot catalogue and fell in love with it just as quickly.  The bello bangle has the beautiful details as the Hermes bangle, only at a fraction of the cost. If you’ve been lusting after the Hermes, but can’t commit to price tag, then go for the bello and splurge on a spa day with the difference! 🙂
