New Year

Two Thousand Twelve

While 2012 was filled with many wonderful moments, 2013 will be living and experiencing all of the fabulousness.  Both of my nieces will be born in the next month (official Auntie status!), Alan and I will be married with our family and friends by our sides, we’ll be taking on more travel adventures and home improvement projects, and I’ll be trying new creative approaches on the blog, which I hope you will enjoy.  I want to thank each of you for following along on my blog and your continued support. Not only do I love sharing my experiences with you, but I have made great friends and connections through my blog, which is amazing. I can’t wait to share even more with you in 2013. Happy New Year! XO

Warm Christmas Wishes

Today I want to take the opportunity to wish you all a warm, loving, and happy holiday.  The holidays always seems to come and go so quickly, before I’m able to enjoy all of the moments the season brings: the sweet scents of fresh baked cookies, perfectly wrapped gifts under the tree, the loud laughter that lightens up the dinner table, and the tender moments between loved ones. I wish I had a box that could capture every single moment that I could open up when I’m not feeling so happy to bring back all of these perfect moments.

This year has brought much joy – finding out I’m going to be an Auntie to two nieces in the coming month, getting engaged to an amazing man that I love with my whole heart, and sharing in the happiness at my good friend’s wedding.  The year also brought some heartache – the loss of my closest Uncle, months of unnecessary stress and anguish at work, realizing that Kennedy is not a young pup anymore and is now more than double my age (in dog years), and the tragedy in Newtown.  These wonderful and immensely sad moments are a constant reminder of how vulnerable we are, but it also makes us strong and determined.  I know it is a bit of a cliche, but I wholeheartedly believe it.  Christmastime reminds me of all of these big and small and happy and sad moments; it allows me to reflect on the year that is coming to an end.  Despite the number of happy or sad moments, I know that I am blessed with a loving and healthy family which means the most to me.

This year, no matter your faith, I hope you’ll memorialize all of the moments in your life so you can revisit the good whenever you need a little pick-me-up.  I also hope that your holiday is filled with much love, laughter, and many happy moments.  XO

Holiday Hair – 3 Fab Looks

I love dolling up for the holidays – who doesn’t right? What gets me is that I like to change up my look for each occasion, whether it’s dinner with the family, holiday parties, drinks with friends, or date night with the BF.  I got together with my friend and fab stylist Brig Van Osten to create 3 unique looks for the holidays. These looks are really easy to do yourself (I tried them out after Brig styled me and they are all doable).  We wanted to start with a good style and transition it over for two additional looks.  It’s important to start with a good base hair style that’s flexible enough to restyle and then bring back to the original. We started with pin curls for shinny soft waves, pinned up to fake a bob, and then finished up with a retro braid.  I love all these looks and I can’t wait to recreate them again and again.  Be sure to check out Brig’s blog here and her amazing salon Play Hair Lounge

A Luxe Circus

I had the pleasure of hosting my sister’s baby shower at her home. I am going to be an auntie for the first time – my niece arrives in January (right in time for my birthday!)  We chose a theme that is fun, yet luxurious and just the right amount of girliness.

To keep the look simple, we stuck with fuchsia, tangerine, and gold color accents.  For the centerpieces, I bought a variety of flowers from the farmer’s market in pink and orange hues.  I added bowls of cheese balls as a snack and another pop of color.   I bought plastic animals in a variety of sizes and spray painted them gold to decorate the tables and add on to the favors.

We had a candy bar filled with gumballs, rock candy, mini cupcakes, and pink chocolate dipped marshmallow pops.  For lunch, we served tea-style sandwiches, decadent salads, and other scrumptious treats.

I wrapped mason jars with gold doilies and filled them up with gold serving ware.

My sister loves keepsakes. We printed note cards for guests to fill out with wishes for the baby.   Guests hung up the cards on twine using clothes pins we decorated with gold glitter.  Each guest provided unique and the sweetest messages and wishes for the baby. My sister can’t wait to share them with the baby.

For the favors, we filled up clear take out boxes with animal crackers and added a mini gold animal as a simple keepsake.

My sister was so happy with the shower. I can’t wait to show my little niece the pictures and keepsakes from the shower one day – I hope she loves it as much as her mom does.

Blue + Black

I love the peplum trends since it’s so flattering and takes any outfit up a notch. I also love high-waisted trousers since they help elongate my petite frame. I love the look when I mixed two of my favorite trends.  This look was perfect for work and then after hours drinks with friends.

Chambray: Old Navy | Peplum Top: H&M | Pants: Alice & Olivia (love this striped version here, similar here for under $50) | Belt & Necklace: Nordstrom | Jacket: Forever 21 | Wedges: Theory | Purse: Louis Vuitton

Maxed Out

This dress is fabulous – it has been my go to dress for both formal affairs (last seen here for a wedding) as well as casual weekends.  The temps dropped to a chilly 60 degrees (sigh) so I had to bundle up with a scarf and jacket while shopping for Christmas gifts.  I love that I can take a summer maxi dress and re-work it for cooler weather – only in LA right? So tell me, how do you re-work favorite items in your closet for year round enjoyment?

Dress: Theory (similar here for $120 and here for $55| Jacket: Leifsdottir | Belt: H&M | Scarf: Portolano | Wedges: Theyskens Theory (similar) | Sunglasses: RayBan | Bag: Chanel

Cozy Knits

I love the balance of comfortable and cozy knits with structured and feminine pieces.  The wool mini and silk blouse are office staples, but paired with a striped boyfriend cardigan and knit tights, the look is all comfortable glamorous.

Cardigan: Forever 21 | Blouse: Elizabeth & James (similar) | Skirt: Madewell (available in stores)| Tights: Forever 21 | Boots: Luxury Rebel
