Navy/Aqua

I recently snagged this fabulous sweater skirt on clearance from Barneys (in store)  – it was ridiculous clearance (like Forever 21 prices!).  So of course, I had to wear it as soon as possible for girls’ night out.  Although  I wanted to keep the look simple with a striped tee and neutral sandals, it definitely needed an edge that only a black leather motorcycle jacket can bring to an outfit.  In my younger, yet still fashionable years I must say, I was hesitant to mix browns/tans with black.  I’m not sure why I felt this way, even though I always knew I did not want to match my bag to my shoes (a fashion tip I had picked up reading a French style book).  Fortunately, I’ve left that novice fashion girl behind and mix it up as much as possible.  Were you hesitant to take fashion risks when you were younger?

Comfy Chic

This outfit was all about keeping it casual and comfy, while looking girly and glam for dinner and drinks.  It was also an excuse to wear my sequin skirt again post holidays.  This sweater was a great purchase over the holidays as I’ve been wearing it a lot lately (last seen here), but my skirt not so much so I had to work it into an outfit – stat.  I think you can definitely wear your sequins post-holidays for shopping, lunch, and dinner as long as you balance out the dressiness of the sequins so you don’t look like you missed your NYE bash by a month.  What do you think about wearing sequins and mixing it up with comfy pieces?

Rainy Day

Our fabulous heat wave a couple of weeks ago turned into a stormy and cold week.  Although it was a nice break from the heat, I can’t stand cold and rainy weather for more than a day. I’m definitely grateful that I live in beautiful LA where the weather is usually warm and perfect.  To offset the dreary weather I put on a girly dress with my bright red rainboots for some hobnobbing around town.

Tweedy

I recently picked up this studded tweed jacket from the Zara sale – yeah! I’m usually not a fan of tweed jackets as it evokes a mature, Sunday brunching, Chanel wearing, purple hat club lady vibe for me.  Okay, maybe I’m over criticizing the tweed jacket, but I love wardrobe staples that change up a wardrobe staple. Case in point, the studs on this tweed jacket give it a fun vibe that is not expected.   What do you think about tweed jackets? Am I being extra harsh or do you agree?

Late Afternoon

Late afternoon is my favorite part of the day; as the sun sets everything has a beautiful warm glow and the last hints of the day fade away.  I never seem to have enough winter wear and rarely buy enough sweaters or jackets to keep me warm – I am a summertime gal and will shop for swimsuits in the dead of winter.  As a result, I have to rework my summer and fall items for the winter and now you know why I layer so often.  Maxi dresses can definitely work in the wintertime with a chunky sweater or cardigan and flat booties.  It’s the simplest way to get myself out of the winter blues and chic up my look.  What are your tricks to curing the winter blues?

Green Pastures

This look reminds me of a Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger advertisement – I think it’s the riding boots paired up with the wool mini, chambray shirt, and wool cardigan that evoke an all-American look.  It was the perfect outfit to wear for a casual day at the office before going for a stroll in the late afternoon.  And, yes, I’m wearing my totally worn-in Gap chambray shirt again (sigh).  I’m a sucker for a good chambray shirt (I may have 4…) since they are so versatile and can be worn all year. I definitely think a good chambray shirt is one of the essentials of a closet right next to a LBD and striped tee.  Shop some chambray shirts below.
