Design Crush: Over-dyed Rugs

I’m currently crushing on over-dyed rugs right now.  The process is simple in concept yet intense in labor: deep hues are hand poured over vintage or traditional rugs which allow the original pattern to show through.  The end product is a vibrant and highly saturated version of the traditional rug.  Over-dyed rugs are a great way to add color and drama to an otherwise simple or understated room.  If I were Princess Jasmine, I would put in a special request to fly around on one of these with Aladdin! In addition to flying around town on one of these, I’m considering purchasing one of these rugs in red and pink hues to add to our new home where the color scheme will be mostly cool colors.  Rugs are a great way to bring a room together and identify a space, but the over-dyed richness really adds another level of character.  Can’t you just imagine the surprised reactions of your guests when they walk in and see one of these beauties?! Because the process to over-dye is done by hand, these rugs generally come with a hefty price; however, I have found some similar ones that are printed not hand dyed on Overstock for a 1/3 of the price! Go ahead and check out a whole new world of rugs…

Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler

I’ve never used JC Penney and chic in the same sentence before, but I’m all over the chicness of the Happy Chic by Jonathan Adler collection right now.  It’s pretty fab right? I cannot believe the lack of promotion of this fabulous collection, which has 100% of the chic factor of Jonathan Adler decor at a fraction of the cost.  The BF and I came across it as we were searching for some furnishings for our future house – we are still house hunting but I can sense a home is in the near future for us (a girl can dream and shop right?).  It comes as no surprise that I love traditional design with a modern twist and anything by Jonathan Adler has a double thumbs up from me, so you know I jumped around from joy when my eyes came across Happy Chic.  Can’t you imagine me sitting on that plush sofa with a martini in hand and lazing away on a Sunday afternoon? I think it might be a good thing that we don’t have a home with keys in hand or else I would buy up more than the house could contain.  What do you think about the collection? You must click through and just peek at the sweet delights waiting for you.

Design Crush: Emerald Interiors

Emerald is lively, radiant and lush – isn’t that everything we want in a fabulous room? Although blue is my favorite color, I have always had a preference to green since it is an uplifting color and exudes positive energy.  Growing up I was secretly jealous that my sister’s birthstone was the Emerald and I was stuck with Garnet (sigh).  Although the BF are still on the hunt for a house (argh this housing market!), I’ve been eagerly pinning away  many interior inspirations for when we finally get our place.  Although I’ll probably stick to neutrals for our place, I love the idea of using emerald green as an accent color on walls, furniture, bath tiles, and even keeping it simple to pillows and drapes. So what do you think about the Pantone color of the year?

Design Crush: Pink Rooms

The quintessential cute color I loved as a girl is all grown up and sophisticated. Yes, I can go forth and paint the walls fuchsia and rose and then sit back, sip on a cocktail and enjoy the elegance of the color.  I especially love the distinct coupling of pink with brown and olive hues, but it is always chic when paired with white and black.  Now, I’m not too sure if I could convince BF to go down the pink path, so I should consider getting myself a pied-á-terre and blushing that up, non?  I’m thinking Paris! Now for the decor, it will be the perfect balance of minimalism and excess, with wonderful, luscious fabrics and chandeliers with crystals – glamour in the details.  After hobnobbing in the Marais quarter and Saint Germain des Prés, I will come home to soothing shades of blush. Oh what a wonderful way to live! This is entirely possible as BF and I are considering honeymooning in France for several weeks. So this time next year, I could be writing to you from my apartment in Montmartre.  Yes, I’m jealous of future me, too.

Design Crush: Woodson & Rummerfield

Ron Woodson & Jaime Rummerfield, co-owners of the LA based interior design firm Woodson & Rummerfield’s House of Design, have been my long-time design crush.  Not only are they true California style makers,  but they represent my favorite style in everything – “Modage” – modern meets vintage.   When it comes to fashion, you all know that I love taking classic, vintage pieces and styling them with fashion forward pieces for a modern look for the modern woman.   Of course, my fascination with this glam and sophisticated look transcends into livable spaces.  I want to feel cozy and want the comfort of classic pieces in my home, but I also want the edgy, eclectic, and memorable feeling at home.  This is why I  love Woodson & Rummerfield’s work; it is a place that I can call home.

DESIGN CRUSH: Mirrored Vanities

I have been searching for the perfect vanity for the last month, so that explains today’s obsession of mirrored vanities. These vanities are very old Hollywood glamour, just my style. Just thinking of these fabulous and glamorous abodes makes me think of the long hours I’ll spend in front of the mirror – it is called a vanity after all!
