How to Wear a Yellow Blazer #5 – Parisienne

Blazer: Zara, similar here and here
Top: Zara
Pants: Alice & Olivia on sale for $77! (I’m wearing a size 0)
Wedges: Ash
Bag: DvF, similar here for $150 and here for $40
Head Scarf: Vintage Gucci
Sunnies: Miu Miu, similar here for $20
Jewelry: Michele Watch and SerenaLeena Bracelet (use code LOVEFASHION for 10% off)

If I were to describe my style, it would be chic with a French and vintage vibe.  I think today’s outfit, The Parisienne, pretty much embodies that. I absolutely love going through old magazines (and now Pinterest) to find vintage and Parisian inspiration, since the styles are always classic and chic with a certain je ne sais quoi about them.

On another note, I apologize that I’ve been a little slow with the Yellow Blazer outfits. I was hoping to churn out 20 outfits in 20 days, but then I thought that the looks really wouldn’t be organic.  So thank you for your patience and I will definitely get cracking and hope to add about 3 looks a week until we get through all 20! If you need some last minute inspiration, feel free to email, tweet, or instagram me!

Thanks for visiting! XO

Dérives, THINGS TO DO

5 Things to do in LA This Weekend

1. Barnsdall Park Wine Tasting
This summer-time favorite started years ago through a small group of friends and has since turned into a must-have for hipster Angelenos.  If you’re into wine, picnicks, food trucks, and gorgeous views, this is the thing to try.  Plus, if you’re into architecture you can get a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House. Tickets are $25. Get more information here

2. Jubilee Festival
Silverlake Jubilee Festival is held in the epicenter of hipsterville at Sunset Junction.  The 2-day festival features 6 stages, food vendors and curbside shopping.  Headliners for this year’s event include Kinky, Aloe Blacc, Autolux and many more.  Tickets start at $20. Get more information here

3. Jazz Reggae Festival
For 25 years, the Jazz Reggae Festival has been providing a mash-up of hip-hop, reggae and jazz in LA. Headliners for this year’s 2-day festival include Bobby Womack and The Roots. Reggae Day will be headlined by Collie Buddz, Shaggy, and Don Carlos. Tickets start at $29. Get more information here

4. Santa Monica Beach & Pier
Santa Monica Beach & Pier provides a full-day of activities. From sunning at the beach, to recreational activities on the pier and shopping and dining at 3rd Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place, you can spend the whole day lazing away in SaMo. Free beach access, parking approx. $5. Get more information here, here, and here.

5. Griffith Observatory
Hands down one of the greatest spots in LA and yet I know life-long Angelenos that still haven’t been to Griffith Observatory.  Even if you just visit and walk around the building and grounds, you will enjoy beautiful 360 degree views of beautiful LA! Also, you may want to see the short show in the planetarium, which is very cool (even for you non-nerds).  Admission is free. More information here

Nautical Eclipse

Top: Nordstrom
Skirt: J. Crew (on sale, use code LOVEIT for 30% off)
Belt: Thrifted
Heels: Chloe, similar here for $75
Clutch: Kooba
Bracelets: J. Crew
Sunnies: Forever 21

As if I weren’t tired of yellow (20 outfits with a yellow blazer!), I had to wear my bright yellow mini skirt this past weekend.  The weather was absolutely perfect in Los Angeles and I spent almost every minute of it outdoors.  We also had the opportunity to see the eclipse thanks to the BF (he made a pinhole camera so we could catch a glimpse of it!)  I definitely remember the pinhole camera being much more exciting in elementary school, but it was a fun way to close out a fabulous weekend.
Happy Wednesday! XO

How to Wear a Yellow Blazer #4 – Team Player

Blazer: Zara, similar herehere, and here
Shirt: J. Crew, similar here
Skirt: J. Crew (on sale!), similar here
Belt: Anthropologie, similar here and here

Who says you need to wear a jersey to show team spirit? I don’t think so, hence my outfit called the Team Player! Living in Los Angeles one becomes a Lakers fan whether or not she likes it; whether it is to participate in the office bracket pool, spend meaningful time with the boyfriend, or take out Mom for a much needed outing. I’ve been sucked in thanks to the guys at work and my Mom (yes, my Mom). And so, I show my team spirit at work on days when I really think the Lakers need a helping hand (though it didn’t seem to help garner a win last night).  And so rather than leave a perpetually depressed packed pub in a jersey, I ventured out for some pick-me-up martinis with girlfriends in my bright hues!

How to Wear a Yellow Blazer #3 – Coffee Run

Blazer: Zara, similar herehere, and here
T-shirt: Target
Shorts: DIY cut-offs
Boots: Dolce Vita
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Sunnies: Ray-Ban

I love weekend mornings not just because I get to sleep in, but because I don’t stress over the daily routines of the workweek.  I love not bothering to style my hair and just throwing on a t-shirt and cut-offs to leave the house to get a cup of coffee with friends – it’s quite refreshing and relaxing. Rather than wearing a striped sweater (my usual go-to on weekends), I decided to wear my yellow blazer for an obvious pop of color.  Enjoy outfit #3, Coffee Run, for ideas on how to wear a yellow blazer.

Check Mate

Shirt: Madewell (on sale for $40 in store)
Blazer: Theory, similar here (use code BRSUMMER25 for 25% off)
Skirt: Zara
Heels: Zara
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Sunnies: Miu Miu
Necklace: Banana Republic

As you can tell, I traded in my yellow blazer for a gray version.  Although I bought this blazer as part of a suit (from the Theory outlet at 70% off!), I rarely wear it as a suit. I wear blazers all the time since they always add the right balance of chic, crisp, casual, and cool to any outfit.  The wool-blend fabric and gray color of this blazer takes borderline casual outfits and make them appropriate it for work. And so, I can happily wear my short lace skirt to work, without worrying about what the boss is going to say!
I hope you’re all having a fabulous Wednesday. As always, thanks for visiting. XO!

How to Wear a Yellow Blazer #2 – Neon Pop

Blazer: Zara, similar herehere, and here
Top: Collective Concepts, similar here and here, super cute version here
Jeans: Nordstrom JRs, similar here and here
Heels: Christian Louboutin
Clutch: Betsey Johnson
Dog: Rescued from Boston Buddies – Kennedy 😉
Hi friends! Here is installment number 2 of “How to Wear a Yellow Blazer” called Neon Pop! I decided to take my love of mixing brights to the next level with neon brights! I kept the look simple with classic pieces: skinny jeans, neutral heels, and white tank.  I think I’m going to try this color combo again, but with bolder pieces (I’m thinking my lime green backless cocktail dress!). I hope you’re enjoying these outfit posts – there are many, many more outfits to come!
PS – Kennedy just had to be part of this outfit post…maybe it was the Loubs…I also noticed I have very veiny feet…

How to Wear a Yellow Blazer #1 – The Trendsetter

Blazer: Zara, similar herehere, and here
Dress: Jason Wu for Target
Wedges: Theory, similar here
Bag: Marc Jacobs, similar here, here, and here
Necklace: Forever 21

Here is the first outfit for the “How to Wear a Yellow Blazer” series, called The Trendsetter.  What better way to wear a yellow blazer than with another Spring must-have item?  I loved pairing the blazer with the colorful pastels of this Jason Wu dress for the office.  I toned down all the bright colors in my outfit, with black heels and bag, and simple hair and make-up.

Necklace: H&M
Sunnies: Miu Miu
I love getting dolled up, but sometimes I like to stick with simple, casual pieces on the weekends. I was able to go to Transmission LA at the Geffen (an art exhibition curated by Mike D from the Beastie Boys), which was amazing. It combined fabulous art, food, and DJs – a home run in my book. If you’re the in LA area, you missed the exhibition (closed on Sunday), sorry, but I’ll share some pictures.
Happy Tuesday! XX
